This has been out since the beginning of April, but I kind of overlooked it. VideoLAN (VLC) is an excellent multimedia player with it’s own plugins for playing different formats, so it doesn’t need any codecs to be installed. Pidgin 2.4.1 has been out for more than a week now, but I’ve been too busy in real life to make a post about it yet. Pidgin is an instant messaging program for Windows, Linux, BSD, and other Unixes. You can talk to your friends using AIM, ICQ, Jabber/XMPP, MSN Messenger, Yahoo!, Bonjour, Gadu-Gadu, IRC, Novell GroupWise Messenger, QQ, Lotus Sametime, SILC, SIMPLE, and Zephyr. Pidgin can be extended using plugins, and Lifehacker.com has a top ten list.
