µTorrent 1.8.2 build 15227
Some projects really make it hard to post about new releases. µTorrent has the stable 1.8.2 branch, the beta 1.8.3 branch and the alpha 1.9 branch. On top of that, µTorrent has an auto updater built-in. So most people get the goodies as they use the program. For this reason, I might as well keep quiet now and then and skip a few announces.
µTorrent is an efficient and feature rich BitTorrent client for Windows sporting a very small footprint. It was designed to use as little cpu, memory and space as possible while offering all the functionality expected from advanced clients. Continue reading

Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope
True to my tradition of posting about releases I find interesting, here’s Ubuntu’s latest offspring: 9.04 aka the Jaunty Jackalope. Ubuntu is a community developed, linux-based operating system that is perfect for laptops, desktops and servers. It contains all the applications you need – a web browser, presentation, document and spreadsheet software, instant messaging and much more. The main Ubuntu uses the Gnome desktop, Kubuntu uses the KDE desktop and Xubuntu uses the Xfce deskstop, and is also suited for older computers. There’s also a “Netbook Remix” version of Ubuntu. The best about all this: it’s free, and there’s a huge community out there waiting to help you in case you run into problems. Because of the different versions, I’m not going into detail about the changes.
VLC media player 0.9.9
VideoLAN is an excellent multimedia player with it’s own plugins for playing different formats, so it doesn’t need any codecs to be installed. It works great for previewing partially downloaded files too as well as DVDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols. It can also be used as a server to stream in unicast or multicast in IPv4 or IPv6 on a high-bandwidth network. Continue reading
