The original client hasn’t been updated in a long time, but since the last couple of months Nir Arbel, the man behind Soulseek, is working on SoulseekQt, an updated version of this very cool program. It’s available for Windows, Mac and Linux. Check it out and don’t forget to share!

Instantbird is the new messaging tool from Mozilla. It can connect to Windows Live Messenger, Facebook Chat, Yahoo, ICQ, IRC, Google Talk and many others. Building on the experience available via open-source software, Instantbird is able to harness the power of Pidgin (via its libpurple protocol library) and of Mozilla’s Firefox technology, to provide access to a wide variety of instant messaging networks, while providing an easy (and well known) extension platform. Although Instantbird is fully cross-platform (Windows, Mac OS X, Linux), we strive to present a native look-and-feel to the user interface.

“We are proud to announce the launch of 11.4 in the openSUSE tradition of delivering the latest technology while maintaining stability. The 11.4 release brings significant improvements along with the latest in free software applications. Combined with the appearance of new tools, projects and services around the release, 11.4 marks a showcase of growth and vitality for the openSUSE project. openSUSE 11.4 is based around Linux kernel 2.6.37 which improves the scalability of virtual memory management and separation of tasks executed by terminal users.” openSUSE exists in KDE , Gnome and other flavours. And there’s now the option to make your openSUSE into a rolling distribution, so you always have the most recent packages installed. I know what I’ll be doing tonight …

New packages showing up in this release include:
* LibreOffice 3.3.1

The best browser just got better. Tab stacking is a new feature for people who have a lot of sites open all of the time. And Opera now has some very cool extensions too. FastestTube is one of my favourites, to easily download YouTube content. Please note that Mac and Linux versions are not availbale yet.

New features in Opera 11 beta
Extensions allow you to add new functionality to Opera easily.
Tab stacking helps you keep your tabs organized.
Visual mouse gestures help you learn how to control Opera with mouse movements.
An enhanced address field makes it easy to stay safe on the Web.
Mail panel upgrades give you greater control over your email in Opera.
Search predictions from Google harness the power of Opera’s integrated search.
A new bookmarks bar gives you easy access to your bookmarks and replaces the personal bar.
Speed improvements bring Opera ahead of other browsers in many benchmarks.
HTML5 server-sent events and Web Sockets enhance Opera’s support for new web standards.
Auto-update now makes sure you have the latest extensions and Opera Unite apps.
You can now set plug-ins to load only on demand to significantly speed up browsing.
Opera’s installer is smaller and streamlined for a faster, easier installation.

After Lime Wire LLC stopped distributing its software in October 2010, a horde of piratical monkeys climbed aboard the abandoned ship, mended its sails, polished its cannons and released it FREE to the community to help keep the Gnutella network alive.
