FrostWire chat server
FrostWire, the filesharing application based on LimeWire, has a built in chat system. The built-in functions are very basic, and I’m not a big fan of the layout. So I asked wyrdjax in the #Support channel if it’s possible to connect to the FrostWire server using a normal IRC client like mIRC, Konversation or ViRC. Just point your client of choice to chat.peercommons.net and you’re good to go!

FrostWire 4.13.4
FrostWire is a free Gnutella client based on LimeWire distributed under terms of the GPL. It was created in September 2005 after LimeWire LLC received a cease and desist letter from the RIAA, threatening to sue them for millions of dollars unless they stop their users from offering copyrighted songs. Unwilling to take the matter to court, LimeWire implemented a filter, preventing its users from sharing audio files that did not contain either a commercial Weed license or a Creative Commonse License. The LimeWire open-source community then decided to create FrostWire, – a free offspring using the publicly available sourcecode from LimeWire to create a Gnutella client that does not filter any content. This project is not affiliated with LimeWire LLC–the official maker of the LimeWire application. The FrostWire project will always remain strictly non-profit and free of any bundled software, including any ads or nags. FrostWire 4.13.1.6 includes Bittorrent support, better search results and faster downloads, along with many UI improvements.

* New Update Manager. Also allows delivery of special announcements to the community. And no, we won’t use this feature for spam, only for special announcements to the community, or special downloads.
* The Update Manager supports the delivery of torrent broadcasting to all the FrostWire community. This will allow us to lower bandwidth costs if we decide to distribute an upload using bittorrent trackers.
* FrostWire startup time back to normal, no more waiting for Chat window to load, the chat is now loaded on a background thread.
