After the usual bunch of alpha’s, beta’s and release candidates, Openoffice.org 3.0 final is here. The most notable change is the support for docx, xlsx of pptx files from Office 2007 for Windows and Office 2008 for Mac OSX. I’ve noticed a speedup in the startup time too, both on my modern home pc and my older work pc.

OpenOffice.org is a free and powerful office suite. The look and feel might be a bit less intuitive compared to Microsoft’s Office suite, but it suits my needs. And because it’s free, open source and most important: good, it deserves to at least try it out if you never did before. Continue reading
