OpenOffice.org is a free and powerful office suite. The look and feel might be a bit less intuitive compared to Microsoft’s Office suite, but it suits my needs. And because it’s free, open source and most important: good, it deserves to at least try it out if you never did before. OpenOffice.org 2.1 is a recommended update, as it represents a significant improvement over all previous versions. Among other things:
* Multiple monitor support for Impress
* Improved Calc HTML export
* Enhanced Access support for Base
* Even more languages
* Automatic notification of updates

>> OpenOffice.org 2.1.0 Dutch
>> OpenOffice.org 2.1.0 other languages
Time for an update, I thought to myself.
* I’ve installed two Wordpress blogs for Zucchini Drive and Hitch. I don’t know if they’ll start using them actively or incorporate them into their sites, we’ll see. Tom from Shadowanimals is working on both of them.
* Mush has made a very nice new template for his Bliip.com forum, worth checking out!
* I’ll be hosting the new Hanenwurger site soon. They are working on converting their Blogger blog to Wordpress. They’re going to get a real url too.
* I stopped hosting the Lowres site. They’ve got their own hosting now, and I wish them all the best.

A mail client is an important tool in this online world. I tried the lot of them, and I’ve been using Mozilla Thunderbird exclusively for almost two years now. It’s free and open source, is available for a wide variety of operating systems, and has a built-in spam filter that simply works. Mozilla Thunderbird is a redesign of the Mozilla mail component. The goal is to produce a cross platform stand alone mail application using the XUL user interface language. The intended customer is someone who uses Mozilla Firefox (or another stand alone browser) as their primary browser and wants a mail client based on mozilla that “plays nice” with the browser.
