OpenOffice.org is a free and powerful office suite. The look and feel might be a bit less intuitive compared to Microsoft’s Office suite, but it suits my needs. And because it’s free, open source and most important: good, it deserves to at least try it out if you never did before. I haven’t found a changelog yet … The changelog can be found here.

XnView is a multi-platform software used for viewing, converting and manipulating graphic files. It supports more than 400 image file formats, is free of charge for private usage, easy to use and can be made portable (like on a usb-stick). There’s a rather lenghty changelog on the XnView forum.
If you’re on a Mac, you’re probably using the Safari browser to surf the web. But if you’re a webdesigner or web developer using Windows, it might be interesting to see how your work is displayed in Safari. Apple claims faster loading speeds than any other browser. From my experience, Opera is still faster however.

Installed Wordpress 2.5 RC1 that was released this morning. The site seems to load faster, but most of the changes are under the hood. The admin panel has been completely redesigned, for the better I must say. There’s better handling of images and media files, you can generate galleries from a series of pictures and so on. Let’s hope all goes wel and I don’t lose my content. I made a backup before upgrading. Of course.

Guifications is a Pidgin plugin that displays “toaster” popups in a user-defined corner of the screen, similar to features that have been added to the official MSN Messenger (now called Windows Live Messenger), Yahoo! Messenger and AOL Instant Messenger clients. It’s highly configurable, easy to use, and has theme support.
I’ve been buying the Solid Sounds compilations by News since they first came out in 1996. Their motto was “music for the club generation”. I also followed their Serious Beats compilation up until volume 28. After that Serious Beats became too commercial and clubby for my taste, but Solid Sounds filled the gap.
